The Artist – Lynn Whitford
A self taught artist, Lynn began producing mixed media pieces in the 1980’s. A decade or two later while living in the UK she discovered encaustic art with bees wax being the carrier for the colour pigments and a new direction was developed.
On returning to New Zealand Lynn continued to develop her encaustic painting styles and in 2007 opened her own encaustic art studio gallery attached to the small motel complex which she owns & operates with her husband Steve, in the renowned art town of Nelson in the top of the South Island.
Lynn now works in a combination of both encaustic Techniques, the European which she first started and the North American, creating many interesting and varied pieces from large paintings through to smaller gift items.
She welcomes visitors to her Studio Gallery at Tahunanui the beach suburb of Nelson city, where apart from viewing her work you are able to have a brief demonstration of how she works with encaustic, or even draw on her knowledge of encaustic art by partaking in one of her 3 hour Workshops, perhaps also taking advantage of the attached self contained accommodation.
The gallery is open from 10am – 5pm daily during summer and by appointment other times. Simply Contact to arrange your visit, workshop or accommodation in the attached self catering accommodation.
